Why I am a Healer In Chicago in 1991, I checked out a book from the public library called Science & Health. I read it mostly because after a conversation with a friend of mine I wanted to get more information so that I could defend my position that Christian Science was stupid and bad. Instead, to my surprise, I found in the author, Mary Baker Eddy, a kindred spirit with remarkable insight who seemed to understand why I was disillusioned with organized religion, why I had given up believing that God cared about us in any individual way, and so much more. Soon after finishing this amazing book, even though nobody told me to, I decided to throw away all remedies, even aspirin — every single medicine or vitamin I had. I stopped going to the chiropractor I'd been seeing weekly, and soon I was healed of carpul tunnel syndrome, which I'd been struggling with for a long time. Back then I was a singer/songwriter/guitarist and freelance writer, so I found this dramatic healing of constant pain and numbness to be a huge relief, not just physically, but also it was a boost to my career. What an astounding discovery! I often suffered from allergies and other chronic ailments, but these problems faded away in a few years' time. Since then I've watched countless healings happen in my life because of the scientific prayer I learned to practice from studying Eddy's writings and The Bible. In 1995, I completed formal Christian Science Class Instruction in Columbia, SC. If you'd told me then that I was going to write a published book about spiritual healing and become a full-time healer, I would have thought you were crazy, but here I am doing it. I have been grateful to make Christian Science my way of life. Experiencing consistent progress and spiritual growth, I've never looked back. I have a public healing practice because I want to share with others the infinite power of healing prayer that sustains every moment of our lives in this complicated 21st-century world. It's a spiritual way of living that's practical and provable, and it holds up even under the utmost scrutiny. Anything can be healed and transformed through scientific prayer alone — from the common cold to a terminal illness, and everything in between. I'm here to bear witness, with you, to the healing truths that Rabbi Yeshua (Jesus of Nazareth) and other great sages throughout time have taught us. God is Infinite Love, guiding and guarding each of us eternally, a Principle that stands up to every question you've ever thought of, and to challenges we haven't even encountered yet. God, Infinite Life, Spirit, Truth, is the One Source of All, and as God's image and likeness, each of us wholly reflects this Infinite Good in our own individual way. An understanding of this spiritual reality brings healing. I am grateful for my upbringing in the Lutheran ELCA church (my father was a minister for over 30 years), and I support that which endures at the core of all religions and spiritual endeavors — our daily directive to love our neighbors and our enemies. For the past several years I have been studying Hebrew, Talmud, and the Bible with Jewish Renewal Rabbi David Zaslow and teacher Ayala Zonnenschein at the Havurah Shir Hadash in Ashland, Oregon. These fascinating studies have enriched my healing practice as I seek to reach out to anyone anywhere seeking healing. You may have doubts, like I did at first, about this radical healing method.
